It’s #GoodNewsFriday in #StamfordTexas! Today, I want to spotlight a host of people bringing joy and good news to our community. 2020 has been a difficult year, but tons of people are working hard to improve life in our community.
Take, for example, Teresa and Tony Nauert! They took it upon themselves to create this fun and festive fall display on the southeast corner of the downtown square. I was talking to Audra Arendall, publisher of the Stamford Star newspaper and Audra observed that, even in a hard year, we’re reminded how lucky we are to live in a community where people do things like this to brighten our days.
How about our Stamford Chamber of Commerce, working hard to safely host the 2nd Holly Jolly Christmas Classic, with fun events of all kinds and a community Christmas decorating contest? This year more than ever, our community needs our institution of three decades, the Christmas Day Dinner, hosted by St. John’s United Methodist Church and led by dozens of volunteers from every church. Trinity Church’s Project Hope, the Stamford EMS Christmas Drive, and the Stamford Kiwanis Club Goodfellows drive are all volunteer-led projects to support children and families in our community who are in need around the holidays.
Audra said it simply and perfectly: “I really love our town!” I do too, Audra! I really love our people, who constantly give of themselves to improve the lives of others. If you’d like more information about any of these projects, please contact me. If you’re not in Stamford, look for the helpers giving of themselves in your community and tell them how much they’re appreciated!
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting the positive activities underway by the City of Stamford and the community at large in our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
