A new year is upon us! That itself is worthy of a #GoodNewsFriday post. A new year (especially after 2020!) feels like a clean slate—we’ve turned to a new page and we’re free to make something new, fresh, and reinvigorated. But as I ate my black-eyed peas today (with cornbread, onions and Tabasco sauce, of course), I was thinking how life doesn’t always work that way. If certain things hold us back or cause difficulties in the previous year, simply changing the calendar won’t make our problems disappear.
As we start fresh—in the City of Stamford, in the country, and in our own lives—I encourage each of us to identify what we want to improve in the new year and what might hold us back. I’m doing that myself, with regard to our #BetterStamford mission. Soon, I will release our second State of the City Report. Last year, our report outlined 20 priority areas for improvement in the community. Despite a global pandemic, we’ve made tangible progress on almost every one of those priorities. This year’s report will detail that progress, identify what might be holding us back, and present more solutions to continue our progress.
2021 will be a big year for Stamford, y’all. We have many challenges ahead, but we’ve laid so much necessary groundwork for the community’s continued revitalization. Things are poised to move forward by leaps and bounds. So many of you have expressed your interest in how to help on topics you’re passionate about and I’ve enjoyed hearing your ideas. If you have a specific area of interest and want to help move it forward, please continue to let me know! We want to engage every member of the community who is willing to work towards improving this place we all love. Happy New Year! Let’s go make it a great one.
