Good News Friday: Ageless Impact
When community leaders announced plans to renovate and reopen the Grand Theatre, Luke Thane immediately applied for a job, before the renovation even officially began. Actually, it was less of an application and more just a confident assertion that he intended to work there. Who could argue with such an intentional passion? Luke has been a theater employee for almost 3 full years, since our first showing in November 2018. He’s been at the concession stand cash register almost every night we’ve been open since then. But that’s not it! He’s also been a lifeguard at the Stamford City Pool, which he has transitioned into the pool manager role for this year and a few more years to come. His level of service resulted in the Stamford Chamber of Commerce creating a special award this year just to honor his unique brand of dedication to Stamford!
This weekend is Luke’s last at the theater, as he’s headed off to college. That’s more bittersweet than #GoodNewsFriday, but what is good, nay, GREAT, is this: over the last three years Luke has set a remarkable standard for what a passionate person can accomplish in their community, regardless of their age. Building a better community doesn’t require you to have an advanced degree, an elected position, or money to invest. It requires you to have passion and a work ethic with which to dedicate that passion wherever you can make an impact.
Luke’s impact on Stamford and the world at large has only just begun, but I have a feeling he has inspired a wave of others to step up, lead, and make a difference themselves.
