Good News Friday: Firsts
There can be only one #GoodNewsFriday today! Last week, we sent well wishes to the Stamford Lady Bulldogs softball team. They were one win away from the state tournament when I wrote that message. Well, they won that game! Two intense-heart stopping games in Austin later and these girls are now state champions!
Over the past week, it’s been fun to read all of the reflections and support from the community. The softball program was launched when I was in school, so it was especially enjoyable to see the pride of my friends who were on some of the early softball teams and laid the foundations for several decades of success that culminated this week at the highest level. It was incredible to be on the square last night and see all the parking spots full, as so many folks came out to welcome our team home, complete with a police escort across Jones County, an escort by Anson police and fire vehicles through their community, and a full complement of Stamford police/fire/EMS vehicles, including a water arch by our fire trucks!
Above all, we’re extremely proud of our players, coaches, and everyone who had a hand in their success. They are the first girls athletic team state champions in Stamford history. May all facets of our community pursue the same level of hard earned excellence!
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
