Good News Friday: Fixing the Pothole Problem
Author’s note: for two years now, I have written a Friday newsletter called “Good News Friday,” spotlighting positive events in the Stamford community. As the West of 98 newsletter grows, I am mindful that many subscribers are interested in my big-picture writings and not the weekly progress of a community in which they do not live. Over the next several weeks, I will cross-post Good News Friday at West of 98 and at BetterStamford.Substack.Com, a newsletter that will be dedicated solely to Stamford news. If you wish to continue receiving Good News Friday emails, please subscribe there! Like West of 98, it is a free newsletter. I will also continue to post Good News Friday on my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Near the end of October, I will remove Good News Friday from the West of 98 newsletter schedule. What will replace it? Stay tuned to find out!
Potholes are a topic that nobody loves. They are frustrating to our citizens. They can damage vehicles, spill drinks, and generally aggravate those who encounter them. Stamford is not the only town with potholes, but we have our fair share, and as long as we have one pothole, we have too many for my taste. Our pothole expert Pete Perez receives great accolades from our citizens and rightly so. He works quietly and diligently day after day, fixing streets and improving the day-to-day life in our community. Over the summer, we hired Pete some help! He received the assistance of two teenagers who applied for a job while on summer break from school. This assistance was fruitful and we made great progress on potholes despite the brutal summer heat.
We recently completed our City budget for the upcoming fiscal year and, among other things, we increased our investment in street repairs for the year to come. Over the last few years, the City escalated its spending on street repairs each year, mindful of the importance of this topic to our citizens. We are stepping it up again this next year. We are also working on some plans that will lead to long-term street improvement, beyond patching potholes. Streets are important to you. We know that. We value that. Pete works hard on it every day and we are providing him the resources necessary to make the streets far better for years to come.
As always, if you have a request for pothole repair, please call City Hall at 325-773-2723 during the weekday or email me at any time at stamfordstreets@gmail.com
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
