Good News Friday: Personal News
I’m invoking author’s privilege to share a personal #GoodNewsFriday today. I hope you don’t mind.
When I woke up Monday morning, I had an action-packed week ahead. It included one of the biggest deadlines and tasks of my professional career. Then, Tuesday happened. It was mid morning. I was feverishly working on this massive professional task. My 37-week pregnant wife called. Lauren was leaving her doctor’s office in Abilene, where she had been told “go home, pack a bag, and come back. You’re having a baby today.” I said, “are you joking?” She was not. I momentarily put my head on my desk in stunned silence. Then, I apprised my office staff, lined out the tasks, and raced home. We packed. Yes, we grabbed Allsup’s burritos, because 1) it was almost lunch and 2) obviously. We hit the road to Abilene.
At 11:59 PM on Tuesday night, Ruth Alice Decker arrived. Her mother is deeply inspired by Ruth of the Old Testament and we selected “Alice” as the most suitable Rooseveltian choice for a girl’s name. Ruth is great. Her mother is great. Her big sister Miriam is cautiously excited but she also has a lot of Easter eggs to address.
That’s the Good News that matters to me today.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature (usually) spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
