Good News Friday: School Savings
A few weeks ago, we brought you a #GoodNewsFriday feature on the launch of the annual Better Stamford School Supply Drive, a grassroots project to support our local students with needed school supplies. Today, I want to share with you the fruits of their labor.
Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of the Stamford community, this year’s drive raised over $8,500 in donations! But wait, there’s more. Due to the savings from bulk purchases and the tax-free weekend, the drive netted an additional $7,500 in savings. In short, the community was able to purchase school supplies that would have cost our families over $16,000 at ordinary retail prices. As school kicks off, that is an important $16,000 that our families can spend on school clothes, school activities, or other needs, without having to worry about these school supplies.
The volunteers have even bigger plans next year! Thank you to Kassidy Martin, Josh Swonger, Jessica Decker Vaughan, and every community member who contributed in some way. You are why Stamford is such a special place.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
