Good News Friday: Something to Do
“There’s nothing for kids to do around here” is a common refrain in small towns during the summer. Since the Grand Theatre reopened in late 2018, its leaders have aspired to help fix that in Stamford, with a summer program to entertain children and provide relief to beleaguered parents. Between the challenges of re-opening a single-screen, community-owned theater in a multiplex industry and dealing with a global pandemic, timing has not allowed that to work. Until now!
If you follow the Grand on Facebook, you might have already seen this exciting news. Beginning June 8, the Grand will host its inaugural Summer Movie Club, with a kids-oriented movie every Tuesday morning at 10 am. This program runs until August 10. Tickets are $2 each week, but you can buy a $15 pass that provides admission to all 10 movies. The concession stand will be open and children, parents, grandparents, and anyone else are invited to join. As you know, quality of life in #StamfordTexas is very important to me, because it is how we attract new families to town. Between movies every Tuesday morning and a fantastic city pool that is free to everyone, I’d say we’re making big, positive steps. And that, my friends, is a #GoodNewsFriday that I am enthused to share.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
