Good News Friday: Technological Transformation
Today’s #GoodNewsFriday brings you an update in our quest to improve internet access and affordability in Stamford and across Jones County! This spring, we launched an initiative with Connected Nation Texas to do just that. Our initiative kicked off with a community survey, that obtained information on internet access from a variety of sectors.
Our county completed the survey in record time and exceeded the targeted goals for responses in extraordinary fashion. For example, we received 126% of the response goal for residential users, 114% for agriculture users, and 220% for business users. In a conference call this week, we learned that the Connected Nation folks are almost finished analyzing the survey data and they should have a report to us in the next few weeks. We will use this data in the coming months to develop a technology action plan. In short, this will identify the needs and it will propose solutions for those needs.
Armed with data and a plan, we can make real, lasting change to internet availability in Stamford, and by doing so, we can transform the quality of life and economic development opportunities in our community in a manner not seen since the early 20th century brought the railroad, which brought our community to life.
