Good News Friday: the Big Picture
Today’s #GoodNewsFriday is about stepping back to see the big picture.
This block is adjacent to Oliver Elementary School and receives substantial school traffic. When Stamford community leaders started the Reclaiming Stamford project 15 years ago, there were a half dozen abandoned structures on this block. It was filled with high weeds and illicit activity. It was a positively gloomy, depressing stretch to pass through. I drove through a few weeks ago and was struck by the change. It’s open. It’s bright. The neighbors have worked hard to clean it up. It feels like an entirely different block.
Community revitalization is a long term project. It’s easy to get lost in the weeds, so to speak. The to-do list in #StamfordTexas is a mile long and seems to grow all the time. Hundreds of need clearing. Water and sewer need repair. Streets need rebuilding. We need more quality housing. Rather than get overwhelmed or discouraged, sometimes it’s important to take a step back and look to see how far you’ve come. The good news is all around.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the Stamford community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
