#GoodNewsFriday: A Better Block
This round of work by Reclaiming Stamford is winding down, so I want to spotlight two properties right across the street from one other. These are both located in the 700 block of South Swenson, just past the Vanderbilt intersection. This area is highly visible with traffic headed to school and our downtown business district. One was partially burned down. Both have been longtime eyesores that have presented a number of safety hazards.
Thanks to the hard work of code enforcement officer Manuel Ramos, the City of Stamford obtained a condemnation to demolish the burned-out structure and demolished the other as a tax foreclosure. The tax foreclosure lot has now been sold to the neighbor, who has been hopeful to see this property cleaned up ever since he purchased his home.
Stay tuned for a full summary on this round of demolition work! Several other structures were cleared on South Swenson and other properties were cleared throughout town. We’ve also recently resold some houses that will become new residences for other citizens. Much work remains left to be done, but every day, our community gets a little cleaner and its future gets a little brighter!
