#GoodNewsFriday: An Enduring Legacy
I often wonder: when the leaders of Stamford established a rodeo in 1930 to boost morale during the Great Depression, did they comprehend what they were creating? Did they know that their event would still be going strong 92 years later? And not just going strong, but growing and flourishing in all sorts of new ways?
This morning, I stopped by the main arena to discuss a few details for the matched horse races with my hard-working friend Matt Mueller, president and general manager of the Texas Cowboy Reunion. We sat in the empty VIP area above the bucking chutes. There was a nice breeze. It was quite pleasant and I took this picture. This historic arena has produced countless memories for competitors, fans, and multiple generations of families from Stamford and beyond. It has improvements like new grandstands and a video replay board, promoting the heritage of the frontier Texas cowboy in a manner that entertains a 21st century audience. I see an event that is growing in size every year. It pours an enormous economic impact into our community each year, beyond any single event in most communities of our size.
Those leaders in 1930 might or might not have comprehended the future impact of their idea. But 92 years later, our community leaders are fully aware of it. We know its importance and we are working hard for 92 more years of legacy, growth, and flourishing for the TCR and Stamford alike!
