#GoodNewsFriday: Bulldog Legacies
Author’s note: for two years now, I have written a Friday newsletter called “Good News Friday,” spotlighting positive events in the Stamford community. As the West of 98 newsletter grows, I am mindful that many subscribers are interested in my big-picture writings and not the weekly progress of a community in which they do not live. Over the next several weeks, I will cross-post Good News Friday at West of 98 and at BetterStamford.Substack.Com, a newsletter that will be dedicated solely to Stamford news. If you wish to continue receiving Good News Friday emails, please subscribe there! Like West of 98, it is a free newsletter. I will also continue to post Good News Friday on my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Near the end of October, I will remove Good News Friday from the West of 98 newsletter schedule. What will replace it? Stay tuned to find out!
Tonight, the Stamford Bulldogs are squaring off against the Cisco Loboes at Bill Anderson Stadium. The youth flag football teams and mini cheer squads got to run out of the giant Bulldog head with the “big Bulldogs” (as my daughter calls them) in front of a large crowd of supporters clad in blue and white.
Many of those elementary school youngsters had parents who were Bulldog football players or cheerleaders. Some might have grandparents or even great-grandparents in the hallowed Bulldog legacy. Others might have families who played or cheered elsewhere, but they’re Bulldogs now. They’re all dreaming of the day when they’re “big Bulldogs” too.
I’ve watched Stamford win state championships and I’ve watched Stamford go winless. But I never cease to marvel at how the Stamford fans show up to support their team! Whether it’s my four year old in her cheerleader outfit, the flag football and mini cheer squads being honored tonight, or the “big Bulldogs,” Stamford is proud of its kids and that’s a legacy we love.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
