#GoodNewsFriday: Come Build Here
New home construction is crucial to a prospering community. It is a sign people are moving to town. Construction spending impacts the economy. New property added to the tax rolls helps pay for improved city services and infrastructure. If you want your community to improve, you need new home construction. I can count on one hand the number of new homes built inside the City of Stamford within the last 20 years. We aim to change that starting in October.
On Monday night, the City Council approved an incentive program to waive building permit fees and water/sewer tap fees to encourage new home construction. This applies to a single-family residence exceeding 1,000 square feet that is properly zoned, has access to City utilities, and is built on an undeveloped lot within the City limits. It applies whether you want to build for yourself, build to sell, or build new rentals.
These fees are a small portion of construction costs, but they represent something important: if you want to build a new home, we want it inside the City of Stamford. In the months to come, we will unveil other ideas to help encourage new construction. Are you a developer? Do you want to build rent houses? Are you a homeowner that wants to #MovetoStamfordTexas? Let’s talk. We want you here.
