#GoodNewsFriday: Coming Home With Pride
It’s homecoming weekend in Stamford! Homecoming is always an exciting event in a small town. Class reunions are held. A homecoming queen is named. Alumni of all ages reflect on their fond memories of growing up in town. Homecoming also comes with somber memories. Youth is fleeting. We think of classmates that have passed. We grow wistful about favorite hangouts that are now closed or places that “aren’t the same.”
This year, I am proud of what we have to show our alumni who are returning to visit. Downtown has more businesses than any time in at least 25 years. Long-quiet buildings have sprung to life in the form of places like Copenhagen Coffee House, First State Bank Stamford, and The Penick Hughes. A live music show is coming to downtown next month. The Grand Theatre has become the center of the community’s entertainment and will have an open house on Saturday for all to stop by. The Museum of the West Texas Frontier has a special homecoming exhibit for visitors. Harmon Park, Washington Park, Wendeborn Park, and College Lake Park have all seen improvements in the last 12 months and more is in the works for each. The Stamford Chamber of Commerce is sprucing up the downtown flowerbeds and has some amazing plans in the works for downtown beautification.
There is much work left to restore Stamford’s full glory. But for now, on Homecoming 2022, we are proud to share all the good that is happening. Welcome back, Stamford Exes! Check out all these good things we have going. You’ll be glad you did.
