#GoodNewsFriday: Fields of the Future
Spring is a time of transformative change. Our yards and gardens spring to life with new growth. The concept of “spring cleaning” exists for a reason. And here in Stamford, we are using spring to start a transformation of our local parks and recreational areas.
City and community organizations are both working on improvements and today I want to share something our city employees have undertaken. This area lies on the south end of College Lake, at the end of Park Drive. For Stamfordites my age and older, it was the location for homecoming bonfires. It was the actually the first place I ever practiced t-ball. But for the last few years, it has been little more than an old backstop surrounded by creeping mesquite trees and illegal dumping.
No more. A few weeks ago, Keep Stamford Beautiful cleaned up the illegal dumping. City of Stamford employees Jeffrey Pippin and Victor Silguero cleared and leveled it. Now, it is ready for service as another new youth baseball/softball practice field in our community. Looking to the future, there’s room for at least one more backstop and with a little more work, this could be added to the adjacent ballfields as a facility to help host future youth tournaments.
Drive by, take a look, and check out the new work all around College Lake. Good news abounds this spring in Stamford!
