#GoodNewsFriday: Growing Volunteers
Small towns do not thrive without a dedicated group of volunteers who give their time and energy to make the community better. Whether it be a city, school, church, youth, or other activity, good volunteers are vital. It is also important to grow the roster of volunteers. As the years pass, people get tired, step back, or move away. If a new set of volunteers are not ready to step in, community institutions can falter. Building new generations of volunteers in city government is necessary for Stamford to thrive for decades to come.
That’s why our City Council has chosen to take an important step. We currently have two vacancies on the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission and we will accept applications for these positions. This application process is common in larger cities and we believe that it will help identify a larger pool of folks who are interested in serving for the first time or who may be returning to volunteer service after a period of absence. You can access that application and additional details here. If this process works, we intend to expand it to future vacancies on other appointed boards as well.
Are you interested in serving? Here’s a good way to start! Stamford is entering a period of new growth and development, so this could be an important way to impact and influence our community in a lasting manner!
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
