#GoodNewsFriday: Lasting Progress
Early last week, I drove up to the square, headed to my office, and I encountered this sight. Forgive me for a brief philosophical moment, but I was enthused both by what I saw and by what it represented. As you may know, construction is underway on the new Copenhagen Coffee House on the south side of the downtown square. The renovations look great and I cannot wait to see the finished product, with another new business thriving downtown. But to support the needs of the new business, our local electric utility AEP had to upgrade the poles and electric delivery capacity on that corner of the square.
I’m always fascinated by the construction in large city downtowns. Streets are closed, massive utility upgrades happening, and buildings are being renovated or built anew. It represents constant activity and progress in those cities. For too long, rural downtowns have experienced the opposite. When I drove up on this sight last week, all I could think was that real, lasting activity and progress is underway in Stamford. It’s exciting to see.
