#GoodNewsFriday: Legacy in Blue
There could only be one topic today and that’s the Stamford Lady Bulldogs! For the first time in school history, Stamford advanced to the girls basketball state tournament and after defeating Martin’s Mill in a semifinal thriller, the Lady Bulldogs will square off at 1:30 PM on Saturday against Gruver with a Class 2A State Championship on the line.
The Alamodome in San Antonio appeared to be loaded with fans dressed in Bulldog blue today. Back here in Stamford, it was a wonderful sight. The Grand Theatre hosted a free viewing party for those who were unable to travel to the game. The theatre was packed with fans and as a result, the downtown square was packed with cars. After the game, the air was filled with honks of joy as Stamfordites drove past downtown businesses with their windows full of shoe-polished messages supporting the Bulldogs.
Less than a year ago, I wrote in this very space about our girls softball team bringing home the first girls team state championship in Stamford school history. Tomorrow, the Grand Theatre will be open again for anyone who’d like to watch the state title game. Admission will be free. The popcorn will be hot. There will be one Stamford, united in blue. The Lady Bulldogs will again bring great pride to our community and regardless of the final score, just like our Lady Bulldogs softball squad, their legacy will become timeless.
