#GoodNewsFriday: Managing a Museum
Running a city-owned, rural museum can be challenging. City dollars are finite and the funding demands are many. Funding a quality museum solely through city dollars is not realistic. When the Museum of the West Texas Frontier reopened one year ago, Museum leadership undertook the challenge of creating a first-class museum and finding independent funding to make that possible.
In the last year, the Museum has obtained several grants and a variety of business sponsorships. That funding effort has now grown to a new level. As you might have seen, the Community Foundation of Abilene just awarded a $20,000 grant to the Museum to hire a dedicated program coordinator, Vanessa McClintock! Vanessa will plan and present the Museum’s ever-growing roster of events: family days, afternoon coffees, exhibit socials, and many more to come.
Big things are underway at the Museum of the West Texas Frontier, but executive director Jewellee Kuenstler has much more in the works! It appeals to all ages and visitors from around the world. Make a donation, stop by and volunteer, or just check out the exhibits (admission is free). You’ll be glad you did.
