#GoodNewsFriday: Pool’s Open
The Stamford City Pool is open! Hallelujah!
As you know, the pool was set to open Memorial Day weekend. We set out to replaster the pool with ample time, but due to delays and shortages in materials, opening was delayed by a week and a half. This frustrated me, because I know the importance of our pool as a community gathering space. But the job is done, and thanks to hard work from D&D Roofing & Construction (Dewayne Wesley), city crews (special shout-out to Jeffrey Pippin and Casey Chambers), Luke Thane, and our pool staff, it was very much worth the wait!
For several years, we have painted and patched an aging, crumbling pool. This year, with federal funds available through the American Rescue Plan, we were able to fix it for the long term. Splash Day was Wednesday afternoon and over 400 people swam in our pools that look brand new in many ways. The new plaster was a little rough and scraped some feet, but that should quickly be smoothed out in daily cleaning! More facility upgrades are in the works, both this summer and for the future. Come cool off and check it out!
The pool is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 1 PM to 6 PM and as always, thanks to our generous community, admission is 100% free.
