#GoodNewsFriday: Powering the Future
Work continues on our new state-of-the-art water treatment plant (peep the new Bulldog blue roof that was recently installed!), but today I want to share with you an important decision that we recently made concerning this project. None of us have forgotten the misery of Winter Storm Uri in February 2021, when Texas’ power grid failed and without electricity, the City of Stamford was unable to provide water to its citizens for two days. I vowed that as long as I was involved, we would never let that happen to us again.
On March 7, the City Council took action to bring that vow to reality by approving the addition of a backup generator to our new water treatment plant. This diesel-powered generator will be equipped with an automatic transfer switch, so in case of any power failure, the generator will kick on and our water treatment facility will operate in an uninterrupted manner until electricity is restored.
We are looking at other upgrades to protect against future natural disasters, but this first step is a big one. No matter what happens in Austin or Washington, we will control what we can control. Our citizens will not be without water again.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
