#GoodNewsFriday: Small Things
Earlier this week, I wrote an essay about the importance of being thankful for what a community has to offer in the present, even as we work to improve the community for the future. Yesterday, an Aggie acquaintance of mine posted this on Twitter and I thought it was a pretty powerful testimony on Thanksgiving: “my life changed when someone taught me how to be grateful about the small, mundane things when there is seemingly very little to be grateful for.”
As we begin the holiday season, I encourage each of us to combat looming stress, anxiety, and pressure by doing just as my friend recommends, by looking for reasons to be grateful, big and small. Tonight, I’m grateful for our community-owned, volunteer-driven downtown theater, showing first-run movies. Because of that theater, this tiny person and I are watching “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” with Junior Mints, Whoppers, popcorn, and drinks in hand. That’s a pretty special night, all right here in downtown Stamford.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
