#GoodNewsFriday: Springing to Life
I’m typing this from the Stamford High School softball field at College Lake. The defending state champion Lady Bulldogs are taking on district rivals from Haskell and the stands are packed with fans of every age. The Bulldog baseball team is playing across town. Western swing legend Jody Nix is playing at the historic Stagecoach Event Center dancehall tonight. Our friends at Copenhagen Coffee House are hosting the first ever Poetry Night in Stamford. The Grand Theatre is showing a brand-new hit movie on Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon. Our youth baseball and softball seasons are kicking into high gear. The Museum of the West Texas Frontier is hosting a photography-themed family day on Saturday. We’ve got more people than ever taking an interest in our local parks and recreational areas, both in using them and in devoting their time and resources to improving them.
Spring is an optimistic time of year in general, but spring 2022 in Stamford feels particularly exciting. Our communities don’t work without jobs and infrastructure and we’re making strides there every week. But communities become an enjoyable place to live, and a community’s people become closer to one another and more united, through their shared culture. We don’t have everything figured out in Stamford, but our culture is coming to life in both old and new ways. Let’s keep it up, friends. Stamford’s best is yet to come.
“Good News Friday” is a weekly feature spotlighting positive news and activities in the #StamfordTexas community as a part of our quest to build a #BetterStamford.
