#GoodNewsFriday: Upgrades and Investments
A few weeks ago, I promised to bring you more updates on the City’s quest to better invest in our employees and give them the tools and resources with which to better serve our citizens. This week, we gave final approval to the City’s new budget that begins October 1. I’ll share more about that budget in the weeks to come. Today, I want to share two equipment investments that were approved out of prior years’ funds as part of our budget discussion.
First, the City upgraded our motor grader to replace a worn-out machine that gave out over the summer. We have already put this grader to work on our dirt roads and alleys in town. We are very far behind, but our people are working hard to catch up and better manage our roads and alleys. Next, we added a new tool, a mini excavator. This machine fits in smaller locations than a backhoe. It is easily pulled on a trailer with a pickup or dump truck. It is less destructive in digging up streets and yards during water/sewer repairs. We believe this equipment will make many repair jobs more efficient than before.
I’ve been vocal in my frustration about our City’s quality of equipment. We’ve got far too many things to do and we need to give our people the best opportunity to get them done. We’ve got a long list of needs to improve our community like we all want, but I remain focused on the positive and we will continue to make progress one day at a time!
